Thames Path Ramble 17: Monday 15th February 2016 Maidenhead to Windsor, which is about 6½ miles.
Sue and Jem, Jean, John, Jane, Dot, Julie, Ann, Peter and Sue, Janet, Ian
and I walked this stretch
Soon we saw, in wonderful sunlight, the graceful arches of the railway
bridge designed by Brunel in 1838 and still carrying the mainline to the West
Country.

Our first glimpse of Windsor Castle through the hedge.
We stopped and looked at Oakley Court, now a luxury hotel, on the
opposite bank of the river. It has been
used as a location in many Hammer films made by the nearby Bray Studios – bit
Gothic and scary at night!
Dorney lakes was the venue for
rowing and kayaking events

The white fencing is the edge of Windsor racecourse.
This church at Boveney is redundant and under the care of
Friends of Friendless Churches. It is made of flint and chalk, is of
Norman origins and was once used by the bargemen. Now it looks isolated.
While walking across the large open meadowland of Eton we could see
across to Windsor and the full sized replica of a Hurricane aircraft. This was
unveiled in 2012 as a tribute to Sir Sidney Camm, renowned in the world of
aviation as the ‘Brunel of aero engineers’.
We finished by posing on the pedestrianised Eton-Windsor bridge and went
to have a cuppa (and scones!).
